About Us
Alpharetta City Band
The Alpharetta City Band, a traditional concert band under the direction of Dr. Nicole Fallin, has become an integral part of the cultural arts community. The ensemble of dedicated amateur musicians from Alpharetta and surrounding communities has entertained audiences throughout the north metro area since its first concert in 1989. Audiences delight in the band’s diverse repertoire, which includes patriotic marches, Broadway classics, jazz standards, traditional concert band arrangements, and holiday favorites.
Alpharetta City Band rehearses Wednesday nights from 7:30pm - 9:30pm at Preston Ridge Community Center in Alpharetta. Check out our How to Join tab to learn more.
Alpha Jazz
Alpha Jazz was started in 2018 and is made up of trumpets, trombones, saxophones, a rhythm section and vocalists. This extremely talented group of musicians excels in the improvisational nature of jazz. Alpha Jazz rehearses Wednesday nights at 5pm at Preston Ridge Community Center in Alpharetta. Dixieatrics
This group consists of a clarinet, trumpet, tenor sax, trombone, tuba or upright bass, piano, banjo, and drums. Washboard and spoon players are encouraged to apply. It will be known as the Alpha Festkönige Band (for those of you that enjoy bratwurst). Dixieatrics rehearses Thursday nights at 5pm at Preston Ridge Community Center every 1st & 3rd week of the month in Alpharetta.
Alpha Brass
Alpha Brass Band consists of 10 - 12 brass playing members. A range of trumpets, French horns, trombones and baritones makes up this fantastic group. Alpha Brass specializes in small group performances year round!
Alpha Brass rehearses Thursday nights at 5pm at Preston Ridge Community Center every 2nd and 4th week of the month in Alpharetta.

Conductor
Dr. Nicole Fallin joined the Alpharetta City Band in 2017 following the untimely death of the band’s longtime conductor, Bill Haynes. Dr. Fallin earned a Bachelor of Music degree from Appalachian State University, a Master of Music degree from Norfolk State University, and a Doctorate of Education degree from the University of Georgia. A veteran of the U.S. Army, she performed in the 3rd Infantry Division Band in Wurzburg, Germany, the 9th Infantry Division Band in Fairbanks, Alaska, and was First Sergeant and Enlisted Band Leader of the Fort Gordon Army Band in Augusta, Georgia. At the Armed Forces School of Music in Norfolk, she was a trumpet instructor and brass branch supervisor. Following her military service, Dr. Fallin taught band at Augusta’s Glenn Hills Middle School and John M. Tutt Middle School. She also initiated the marching band program while serving as band director at Cross Creek High School. Her teaching extended to the college level as Assistant Professor of Music at Augusta State University.

Founder and Program Supervisor
Don Nahser established the Alpharetta City Band in 1989 at the request of the City Council. In his 30 years as the band’s Program Supervisor, Don served as the ensemble’s liaison to the Alpharetta Recreation and Parks Department and the broader community. He also managed the music library, concert schedule, and oversaw the transportation of percussion instruments and other concert equipment for performances. The Band will forever be grateful for Don's contributions and we will proudly carry on his legacy for years to come.

Conductor (1999-2016)
Bill Haynes was the beloved conductor of the Alpharetta City Band for 17 years. A music educator in Georgia and his native Kentucky for more than 30 years, Bill worked with students from kindergarten to college. He served as a music teacher at E. Rivers Elementary School in Atlanta. A dynamic conductor who brought out the best in his musicians while making the experience fun for all, Bill was also a sought after arranger, performer and clinician. Bill earned his bachelor’s degree in music education from Western Kentucky University and a master’s degree in music from Florida State University.
